Summary
Cross main road from Village Centre and turn left uphill. First turning right [1]onto Hafod Lane. Steep ascent before flattening out, past Plas Hafod Hotel. Good views to right towards the Dee and Liverpool. “Weary Willy” is the steep hill down. Keep left at fork then steadier downhill towards Pant y Buarth crossroads. Straight across here watching out for traffic.
Past small industrial units on right then steep ascent is rewarded by fine view of Moel Famau. Descend down the other side continuing straight on downhill at minor cross roads. (Left takes you to upper paths of Loggerheads Country Park)
Descent takes you eventually down to Coed Cefn Bychan. Cross the Leete Path (taking this to left brings you to the lower paths of Loggerheads Country Park). Stay on road down to ford across the River Alyn.
Normally the river is dry at this point, having disappeared down swallow holes upstream. The concrete track of the ford can be slippery if wet - so use the bridge. Short steep climb out of the valley before turning left at “T” junction.
Continue along the country lane. After a small dip to cross a stream the road left will cut the corner back to the A494 at Loggerheads. Otherwise continue along lane to emerge at Tafarn y Gelyn.
Turn left to walk past line of cottages and onto the A494. Left here along pavement, past Loggerheads, uphill through Cadole, past the former Rainbow Inn and then descend back to the Village Centre, enjoying the view.
